Library update-

The Northfield Public Library will emerge from its construction cocoon this Saturday, May 7th at 10 andeveryone is invited to the Grand Re-Opening ceremonies beginning at 10 AM with a formal ribbon cutting.  In the meantime the library at City Hall and the 210 Washington site are closed as we move the remaining materials and shelves and to prepare the new space. Thebookdrop is not available during this time, and so please keep your items until we open.

We will have new hours beginning May 9 with Sunday hours from 1-5 pm running through June 5.  New weekly hours are Monday through Thursday 9 am to 8 pm, Friday 9 am to 6 pm, Saturday 9 am to 5 pm.

It's time to be creative! It's SIDEWALK POETRY time.

The competition is held each February whereby local residents of any age may submit up to two short poems for consideration. Here are the  rules for the competition. A jury of civic leaders and literary experts select, through a blind judging process, up to ten poems each year for imprint in the City’s sidewalks.  In April, to coincide with National Poetry Month, the poems are published on line and the winners are interviewed and get to read their poems on local KYMN radio.  Beginning in May, as soon as weather permits, poems are installed in sidewalks throughout the community.  A celebratory Capstone Event is held the third Thursday of August in Northfield’s downtown Bridge Square. You may submit up to two very short poems.  They must be submitted from Monday, Feb. 1 through Monday, Feb. 29th to be considered.  Here are the rules .(on second page) Check out this recent documentary on the Sidewalk Poetry project.
